Autosport Show - Pop Bang Colour

Ian Cook, aka Pop Bang Colour, is an artist who paints in vivid colours with radio controlled cars.

Ian has a stand at the 2014 Autosport Show where you'll find him creating what looks like a mess from a distance but a work of genius from up close.

Having walked round the entire show at least twice it was obvious that the Pop Bang Colour stand has the most people standing around it.

As well as creating paintings on paper Ian paints the odd car itself.  Check out the Jaguar F-Type in the photos below.  There was a VW Golf he'd painted too but I got chatting to Alex Robbins (Scrof) and forgot to take a photo of it!

That's Scrof with Pop Bang Colour's painting of his own Citroen BX.

Autosport Show - Lots Of Photos Of Interesting Cars

The 2014 Autosport Show is vast.  It takes over the whole of the Birmingham NEC.  I spent a day there and took 107 photos.

I've posted several articles and photo galleries which you can find by checking out the Autosport label in the label cloud right at the bottom of the main page.

This gallery mops up everything else I found interesting.  I also watched a show at the live arena.  I got a decent seat close to the track but given I only had my iPhone5 the photos weren't very good.

If you are free this weekend then take a trip to the show.  If you're a petrol head you'll love it.

Autosport Show - F1 Cars

The 2014 Autosport Show has a huge display of F1 cars, hosted by F1 Magazine and I took lots of photos.

It's difficult taking pictures of the entire cars due to the amount of people wandering around and inspecting them, so I took a different approach and went for some of the detail.

Autosport Show - Porsche 911 GT3 And GT3 Cup

Porsche's stand at the 2014 Autosport Show has two heroic 911s on display - a 911 (991) GT3 road car and a 911 (991) GT3 Cup.

Both are rather delicious in their own way.  The road car is in a deep red with yellow brake callipers, and check out the headlights in the photo below.

The GT3 Cup race car is in 911 50 anniversary colours and has the most humungous rear wing.

Autosport International Show - 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR

This little beauty is for sale in the Coys Auction section of the Autosport International Show at the Birmingham NEC.  It's actually a replica of a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR.

The seller showed me round his car.  It's got a space frame chassis and the bodywork is aluminium.  The chassis number is the one that Fangio and Moss raced.  Without poking around under the skin you wouldn't realise it's a replica.

The estimate is £150,000 to £180,000.  Given that you can't tell it's a replica on the surface that might be something of a bargain.

Damon Hill - The Best Driver of my Generation

The first F1 race I watched in full was the 1994 Brazilian Grand Prix. I didn’t know a whole lot about F1 but my university house-mate was mad-keen on it, so I watched with him.

That race was won by Michael Schumacher and was largely remembered for Senna’s Williams debut (he spun out on lap 56) and Irvine shoving Verstappen onto the grass, and the massive crash that followed.
