Porsche 918 Spyder sets Porsche's fastest ever lap of the Nürburgring

Porsche have just completed initial testing of their 918 Spyder at the Nürburgring Nordschleife and have reported a lap time of 7 minutes 14 seconds of the 12.8 mile circuit.  This is the fastest ever time set by a production Porsche and is the fifth fastest lap of the Nürburgring ever set in a production car.  The 918 Spyder was equipped with production Michelin tyres.

It is also the fastest ever lap of the Nürburgring in a production hybrid.

The Porsche 918 Spyder has electric motors which drive the front and rear axles and a 770bhp 4.6 litre V8 driving just the rear wheels.

Porsche had previously stated that their target lap time was 7 minutes 22 seconds.
